Antique French Kashmir Reversible Wool Table/Bed Cover

c.1900. This large throw has been beautifully woven from wool and cotton. The design is very much characteristic of a traditional Indian Kashmir shawl, but as this was discovered in Belgium it’s very likely it was woven in neighbouring France where a large proportion of these were made from the 19th century onwards, to meet the increasingly high demand for luxury exotic textiles in Western society.
Its large size and thickness indicates it would have either been a winter weight shawl or used as a table or bed cover.
It’s in very good condition.
Measures 195cm x 130cm.
