Victorian Gilt Cast Metal Mythological Mirror

Late 19th century. This very ornate mirror is made from an alloy metal with a gilt finish. It has a mythological theme with details including the face of Neptune on the top and Zeus-Ammon on the bottom. Between the two faces are serpentine like sea creatures.

It still has its original bevelled mirror plate. It unfortunately has a small chip on the bottom corner but isn’t greatly noticeable as it’s partially hidden by the frame. The back plate is held in place in a slightly Frankenstein fashion, but isn’t going to fall out. There is a small firing surface crack next to the face of Zeus-Ammon, this is common with these old alloy metal and is just from where the metals haven’t quite bonded.

The frame surround has some drill holes from where it has previously been attached flat to a wall. These could be used again or it could be hooked onto a wall instead.

The frame measures 42cm x 25cm.

Plate mirror measures 17.5cm x 14cm.
