Original mixed media artwork by artist James Henry Wess. Wess was born in Liverpool in 1933. He attended Liverpool College of Art, his first solo exhibition was at The Manor House, Ilkley.

He was primarily a sculptor but painted continuously throughout his life. Many of his early work is heavily driven by his interest in sculpture and ceramic design.

This mixed media painting is a combination of pen & ink, oil pastels and a watercolour wash.

Signed by Wess but not clearly dated. Came from a portfolio of other work where some pieces are dated as early as 1955. Stylistically in keeping with his work from the mid 1950s up to the early 1970s.
