Pair of Edwardian Reverse Paintings on Glass of Naval Ships

£55.00

This is a pair of naval themed reverse paintings on glass. One is if the HMS Dreadnought, a Royal Navy battleship. It’s entry into service in 1906 represented such an advance in naval technology that her name came to be associated with an entire generation of battleships, the dreadnoughts, as well as the class of ships named after her. It was decommissioned in 1919. Underneath the title is the line “With T.M. The King and Queen on Board. (Showing the record Target).”

The second painting is titled “Nelson’s Old Flag Ship The Victory”. HMS Victory is the oldest commissioned warship in the world and is the flagship of the First Sea Lord. She was built during the Seven Years’ War and completed in 1765.

The frames are original to the paintings. The fabric covering on the frames would have originally been plush green silk velvet but the fabric is now bald. The fabric is otherwise very stable for its age.

There is some loss of paintwork to the paintings.

Each frame measures 31cm x 31cm

Aperture measures 20cm x 15.5cm
