This mid 20th century ornithological study depicts the post-hunt scene of a European goshawk with its prey. Goshawks were all but extinct by the end of the 19th century due to loss of habitat and persecution from gamekeepers. Though still very much under threat, the goshawk has made a slow recovery over the last century and there are approx 500-600 of them currently in existence.
The watercolour is signed by the artist, Colin Wilkinson, a talented artist well known for his ornithological studies and has featured in wildlife publications.
