Georgian Carved Oak Dresser

£200.00
sold out

An interesting 18th century dresser with a cupboard base and open shelving to the top. The dresser has been heavily carved with traditional “country” style carving, some details may have been added at a slightly later period as was common with these dressers.

It’s a beautiful piece of old furniture but it does show its age, so please read the details below.

The shelving has some twisted plate stoppers, one of which is slightly shortened. There are none on the too shelving- it looks like there was perhaps once a rod running along the top shelves instead.

The cupboard base has just one internal shelf to the right. The back of the base shows the great age of the dresser, its looks like very old floor boards or panelling have been repurposed to cover the back.

There is some old woodworm holes, mostly to the repurposed boarding panels used to line the base. The entire dresser has been treated as a precaution.

The top of the base is made up of thick heavy planks, these have moved away from each other slightly over time and created a split, exposing the doweling (see photos).

The shelving at the top simply sits on top of the base, to be safe it needs to be bracketed to the wall once in situ. This would also help shift the weight back and allow the small doors to be opened more smoothly without catching to base.

There are none of the original keys. The current keys are there simply to help with pulling the door open.
