Antique 19th Century Georgian Leather Wingback Armchair in William & Mary Style
This handsome oak armchair was made towards the end of the Georgian period but is very evocative of furniture popularised during the reign of William and Mary (1689-1702).
The leather is unlikely to be original to the chair but does have a lot of age to it. The leather hidden within the creases reveals it was once red! With age and use it has faded to an attractive warm tan colour. The leather has lots of wear and patina, including marks, a few pulls/scratches on the back and one small tear to the side. However, overall it’s still very supple and useable. We’ve simply given it a good feed with some beeswax. There are a few of the original domed upholstery pins missing from the underside of one arm, but there are the original tacks still in place so the leather is held firm in place.
The structure of the chair is in very fair condition. The seat and back are still well sprung and comfortable.
